Welcome to Doctor Doyon's English class website. You can come here for information and resources but it is all on Google Classroom and remember to upload all your work to Google classroom through Docs (otherwise I can't give you feedback).
Term One This Month we are doing roles for Lit Circles on Dystopian novels. Remember, the context is Perspective (the position from which we observe situations, objects, facts, ideas and opinions) so when you are reading, think: why did those in power think this "Utopia" was so good while others think it is a Dystopia? What happens when one aspect of society tries to impose their cultural and value systems on others? "Perspective influences text, and text influences perspective. Through students’ language and literature studies, multiple perspectives and their effects are identified, analysed, deconstructed and reconstructed. An understanding of this concept is essential in order to develop in students the ability to recognize and respond to over-simplistic and biased interpretations. Seeking and considering diverse opinions and points of view is an important part of developing complex and defensible interpretations. (IBO, 2014) Our Global Context is Scientific and technical innovation so think about why it is dangerous to use technology to manipulate others. Later we will connect to Imperialism and foreign intervention (Syria, Iraq, Libya) to discuss Fairness and Development (What are the consequences of our common humanity?) "Students will explore rights and responsibilities; the relationship between communities; sharing finite resources with other people and with other living things; access to equal opportunities; peace and conflict resolution." |
